The PIYN project involves aspiring artists and performers from Auckland's diverse communities, working with the best of contemporary UK talent, to collaborate, create and celebrate. The programme involves capacity building workshops, online and face to face collaborations and master-classes in creativity.

We are screening the documentary for the 2010 PIYN project July 29th in Auckland City at Federal & Wolfe Cafe Auckland Central. The 30 minute film was shot by Peter Takapuna, and directed by Peter Takapuna and Gareth Farry, and features some amazing live footage from the three NZ shows (Auckland, Wellington and Taupo), as well as some candid interviews with the NZ and UK talent involved.

Look out for live show clips featured in both Taay Ninh and Submariner’s sections of the show, as well as great interviews with visiting UK guests Charlie Dark, and the Urban Soul Orchestra crew. For more on the 2010 edition of PIYN visit the blog here.

Part of the PIYN programme for 2010, and again in 2011, is the use of new media technologies. In May 2010 we gave out 10 Flip cameras to aspiring ethnic creatives, with the help of our partners ARMS & Auckland City Council.

The idea is to begin a process of participatory media enabling community and democratic showcasing and broadcast, for some groups who traditionally (due to culture and socio-economic factors), don’t normally have access to broadcasting.

We are starting to see the beginnings of footage uploaded online, which is encouraging – including from the PIYN show itself, and from various young ethnic creative leaders.
